Kathy’s current work begins with black gesso on wood cradle panel.

With thick impasto oil paint, scenes emerge out of darkness, with just enough light to put a crack in the veneer. The contrast of light against dark brings into focus an intimate truth: a heartbeat, a joy, a hurt, a boredom, an ache.  The process is as relevant as the finished piece. Each stroke strips away the false personas we put forward: the carefully orchestrated brands that mask who we really are, preventing us from making real connections. A moment of truth.
